GlowGems for Profit (Paperback or Softback)

The first book of the Profit Logbooks Series sets the stage for a whole new universe of adventure in the stars.Zack Mbele, captain of the independent freighter Profit, needs cash fast. There’s a loan payment due on the ship, not to mention a bogus Customs duty imposed by a crooked official. They’ll seize his ship if he doesn't pay up and he has few prospects. When an old friend calls with a lead on a job, Zack isn’t too picky about obeying the letter of the law. All he has to do is smuggle someone out of Highpoint, a huge space station orbiting between the Earth and the Moon. It's not all that easy, as a beautiful assassin and the Red Dragons gang complicate things. Suddenly Zack is involved in a maze of double-cross and murder as he races the Dragons and a shadowy para-military army for the greatest prize of all.
Review Quote-"That's the next thing you should know: these are great heroes. Davis has created a fantastic hard-boiled sci-fi hero in Zack Mbele. He's got a complicated past, remarkable abilities, good friends for whom he has fierce loyalty, a deep cynicism and an inability to trust strangers, and a lone wolf streak a mile wide: he's Sam Spade and Harry Dresden and Simon Green's John Taylor and all the rest of those kinds of guys." - Theoden Humphrey, Amazon
Excerpt-"I stood up and turned toward the exit. I took half a step and stopped, sighed, and turned back. I had made a deal with the man. That still counted for something with me.I bent over him and pulled him into a sitting position. The nanos extended into my arms and legs and I hoisted him easily into a fireman’s carry across my back and shoulders. The small crowd that had gathered when the shooting stopped backed away. I lifted my head as they parted in front of me. I was sure that by now, my face and all the action had been recorded on a dozen eye cameras, not to mention the arcade’s security cams. Hiding my face was a waste of time."
