God, I See You: In the Valley of the Unknown (Paperback or Softback)

God, I See You: In the Valley of the Unknown, by Cindy H. Carr, is a Scripture-rooted devotional for everyday people walking through real valleys: seasons of loss, uncertainty, disappointment, confusion, and rebuilding. It speaks to the reader who cannot see or hear God clearly right now, yet senses that faith still matters and wants a grounded next step. The book’s guiding promise is simple: when you can’t see Him, He still sees you; when you can’t hear Him, He still hears you; and when you’re off course, He still knows exactly where you are. Each chapter follows a consistent rhythm you can return to whenever life shifts: a brief orientation to help you name your valley, a first-person biblical narrative to help you locate yourself in the story, a Gentle Truth to carry with you, and a Small Practice you can try today. The first-person chapters are imaginative retellings rooted in Scripture, written to connect God’s story to your story. Read it one chapter per day, one per week, or revisit chapters as needed. In intense seasons of grief, trauma, or clinical distress, the author encourages reading with a trusted, supportive friend, pastor, or licensed counselor.

Across the chapters, familiar biblical lives become mirrors for modern struggles: Peter’s shame after denial, Joseph’s betrayal and unjust imprisonment, Hagar’s wilderness and the God who sees, Naomi’s empty hands after layered loss, and a widow facing debt when the numbers don’t work. Other valleys include injustice when integrity is punished, seasons where God feels silent, and wounds in faith community life when human shepherds fail and trust must be rebuilt. The practices are intentionally simple and embodied, usually a short prayer paired with one concrete act that steadies you: drink water, reach out to a safe person, pause to breathe, open a Psalm, show up, or take the next right step. Whether you read a chapter a day, a week, or return as needed, this devotional invites you to meet God in the middle of the unknown and walk forward with honest hope, restored belonging, and resilient trust.
