The God Who Is Here: A Contemplative Guide to Transforming Your Relationship With God and the Church

While some suggest the problems we face today can be solved by updating Christianity or ridding ourselves of religion altogether, The God Who Is Here demonstrates how the rediscovery of the contemplative way can lead to a deeper relationship with God and a vibrant way of worship. This work draws on the rich tradition of Christian mysticism and contemplative prayer (as expressed through the work, most recently, of Fr. Thomas Keating). With deep biblical insight and poetic expression, The God Who Is Here speaks to those longing for spiritual guidance with the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Presbyterian pastor Peter Traben Haas draws on his own life experiences and his personal witness of Christians from across the denominations who are engaged in deep spiritual practice. Haas has constructed a contemplative theology that allows both a more profound connection to the essential truths of Christianity and an expansive vision of faith within the miraculous discoveries of science and cosmology. Passionate, evocative, and deeply committed to the wonders of a daily connection with God, The God Who Is Here is a stirring new contribution to the Christian community by an important new voice in the world of Centering Prayer.

Peter Traben Haas serves as Associate Pastor for Community at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Peter received his M.Div. from Princeton Seminary and a B.A. in theology from Moody Bible Institute. His daily prayers, essays, and poetry can be found at Contemplative Christians. The God Who Is Here is his first book.
