Godden's Guide to European Porcelain

This new book from Britain's leading expert on ceramics breaks fresh ground. It is the first thorough exploration of the mass of decorative porcelain from Europe imported into Britain and the United States during the nineteenth century.
There are many good books on continental porcelain, but almost without exception they deal with expensive eighteenth-century porcelains from the leading factories - rare pieces that most collectors cannot afford or even expect to see outside a museum. This book, by contrast, illustrates and discusses the more modest wares that so many people already own or collect, and fills in many of the yawning gaps that abound in ceramic literature.
Chapters are devoted to the originals and the many copies of the well-known Meissen (or Dresden) porcelains, and to the reproductions of the valuable Sevres and Vienna wares. Other chapters deal with the main types of popular and available continental porcelains, Paris porcelains, and others that are so decorative and collectible. Full details, working periods, and the main marks are given for all the larger and more important European factories, together with photographs of a comprehensive range of examples.
The book will be invaluable for all collectors, dealers, and auctioneers concerned with European porcelain in all its variety, and for anyone owning or having an interest in decorative china. It brings clarity to a vast and largely unexplored range of porcelain, examples of which are to be found in houses throughout the world.
