About the Author

Joe Dowd, a native of Long Island, has spent 35 years in the news business, a career that spanned leadership roles in virtually every aspect of news gathering, from cop reporter to top editor. He is the editor of Long Island Business News, where he writes a popular weekly column. The son of a decorated fire officer, Battalion Chief Joseph D. Dowd, Jr., FDNY (dec.) and Patricia Dowd, he is a lifelong fire and history buff. He has two grown daughters, Katie and Emily.
