Goha the Fool (Paperback or Softback)

"Goha the Fool" is a landmark work of fiction that vividly captures the vibrant and complex atmosphere of eighteenth-century Cairo. Through the experiences of Goha, a simple-minded yet symbolically rich protagonist, the narrative explores the intricate social and religious landscape of Egypt. The authors, Albert Ades and Albert Josipovici, utilize the timeless archetype of the 'wise fool' to hold a mirror to society, exposing the hypocrisies, virtues, and eccentricities of individuals across all social strata-from esteemed scholars and wealthy merchants to the common people in the bustling marketplaces.

The novel is celebrated for its lush, atmospheric prose and its ability to blend traditional folklore with modern literary sensibilities. As Goha wanders through the city's mosques and alleyways, his seemingly naive interactions reveal profound truths about the human condition and the cultural tensions of a civilization in flux. "Goha the Fool" stands as a significant contribution to world literature, offering readers a satirical yet deeply empathetic portrait of a society rich in tradition. This evocative work remains essential for those interested in Middle Eastern themes, historical fiction, and the enduring power of psychological storytelling.
