Ms. Vanilla's class is happy today; they're about to put on a play. Everyone is ready. The whole school is there. The curtain goes up, so on with the show. It's the story of Red Riding Hood, and every young actor is really so good. But there's something familiar about Big Bad Wolf. Guess who it is? It's Ms. Vanilla!
PreSchool-Grade 2–The first story is told in verse. Ms. Vanilla's class is presenting a play about Little Red Riding Hood. The colorful, engaging illustrations have lots of funny details and readers will appreciate the surprise ending. In the second book, two siblings are trying to get rid of the crows in their garden. The girl believes that she is smarter because she's older and won't listen to any of her brother's ideas. Finally, she asks him for help. He creates a scarecrow, and the birds fly away. The illustrations are sketchy and static. Both stories are told in 200 words or less. Purchase where additional easy readers are needed.–Elaine Lesh Morgan, Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR
