Goldendoodles are a recent hybrid breed of dog with a lineage directly from Golden Retrievers and Poodles. They are not a recognised breed, and their genetics are still very unpredictable. A puppy could have inherited genes predominantly from either gene pool in its lineage.

Some Goldendoodles have coats that shed regularly, and others have coats that shed very little. The hypoallergenic Poodle gene is not a guarantee because the breed is too recent. Whichever gene pool a puppy may lean towards, one thing is certain - it will grow into a gorgeous looking dog with a kind and gentle nature.

Goldendoodles thrive on human company, are eager to please and train easily because they are intelligent dogs.One thing a Goldendoodle is not is an outside dog that gets very little attention! Goldendoodles have to be integrated into a household and be part of the family for them to flourish and grow into happy, healthy dogs. In return, they give unconditional love, loyalty and dedication to their family. The larger sizes are strong and capable sporting dogs that make excellent jogging partners.

They also enjoy hiking and walking nature trails with their family. They are also mostly prolific swimmers, so water sports are a definite ‘yes’ for a larger Goldendoodle.Smaller sized Goldendoodles are excellent companion dogs that enjoy outdoor play, walks and keeping humans company.

All sized Goldendoodles are active and need regular exercise and mental stimulation, so training and interactive play are vital. Goldendoodles are not an innately aggressive breed of dog and do not make good watch-dogs. They make excellent service dogs and can be trained to do a wide range of household chores. Being working dogs this makes them feel part of the family, and they thrive on the praise they get as a reward.
