No Good from a Corpse (Hardback or Cased Book)

Before becoming one of the great writers of science fiction, Leigh Brackett helped redefine hardboiled crime fiction with novels of speed, violence, atmosphere, and razor-sharp dialogue. In No Good from a Corpse, Brackett delivers a gripping noir thriller filled with murder, deception, dangerous women, corrupt operators, and the tense moral ambiguity that defined classic mid-century crime fiction.

Originally published in 1944, the novel follows private investigator Ed Clive as he becomes entangled in a deadly web of murder, blackmail, betrayal, and criminal intrigue after being drawn into the aftermath of a suspicious death. As the case grows increasingly dangerous, Brackett combines relentless pacing with richly atmospheric settings and psychologically charged confrontations that place the novel firmly within the golden age of American noir.

Although later celebrated for her science fiction and screenwriting-including work on The Big Sleep and The Empire Strikes Back-Brackett's crime fiction remains among the finest examples of hardboiled storytelling produced during the pulp era. Her prose combines poetic intensity with hard-edged realism, creating a distinctive voice that influenced both noir fiction and modern speculative fiction alike.

No Good from a Corpse stands as a powerful example of classic American noir: cynical yet humane, violent yet lyrical, and driven by characters struggling through a world shaped by greed, corruption, and desperation.

Ideal for readers of hardboiled detective fiction, noir thrillers, classic crime novels, pulp fiction, private investigator stories, and twentieth-century American suspense fiction.
