About the Author

About the Author In 1975, as a member of the United States Army, Mr. Bey began his career in the behavioral sciences as a counselor in the army race relations program. In 1985, he was reassigned to the medical corps and trained as a medic and behavioral sciences specialist in which capacity he served for his remaining eleven years of service, retiring in 1995. During this period, Mr. Bey was trained as an individual, group, family, and drug and alcohol counselor. Since that time, he has completed undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology and the behavioral sciences. He currently holds a master of science in community counseling, has been credentialed to provide mental health services in the states of Texas and Hawaii, is certified by the Department of Defense and the State of Hawaii as a substance abuse/addictions educator/counselor, and serves as an adjunct professor at Argosy University where he teaches substance-abuse counseling for individuals and families. Most recently, employed by the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii as a mental illness substance abuse (MISA) consultant to a multidisciplinary team on a forensic unit at the Hawaii State Hospital, Mr. Bey also maintains a private practice counseling alternative-lifestyle couples, providing trauma and addictions assessments for the military, counseling and education in conflict resolution, and improving communication skills for the community at large.
