Synopsis
Both a practical guide and reference manual, Good Food, Better Life forges a path to personal wellness through self-reliance and food from nature. Narrated by Martin E. Rollins, a Holistic Health Counselor raised in Detroit on the Standard American Diet (SAD), with co-author Joëlle Rabion providing the healing alchemy of common foods. Amidst today's diet crazes and widespread confusion around food, Good Food, Better Life demystifies the food we eat, and provides "prescriptions" - practical solutions for ill health using whole foods - making the road to health and wellness understandable and achievable. Instead of pointing at the food industry to take responsibility for our unhealthy conditions, or the government or corporate commitment to shareholders, Good Food, Better Life calls upon each individual to take charge of his decisions and actions, providing a common-sense approach, a self-help for achieving wellness.
About the Author
Martin E. Rollins is a Holistic Health Counselor who was raised in Detroit, MI. In 2005 he found himself captivated by the effects of Hurricane Katrina: the exposure - the vastness - of the cultural habits of the poor that clearly precipitated many deaths. His observations went beyond the physical devastation and confused government involvement, further into diet and, in particular, mindset. Rollins had the realization that the isolation of those in New Orleans was reminiscent of what he witnessed growing up in Detroit. He realized his own awareness came not only from his culture but his accountability for his choices. With co-author Joelle Rabion, Rollins decided in 2006 to begin a more formal training in holistic nutrition. Rollins and Rabion graduated from New York's Institute for Integrative Nutrition and were certified through through Columbia University's Teachers College; they are members of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Rollins and Rabion live in Chicago where, in 2008 they launched rr holistic health (www.rrholistichealth.com) and Good Food, Better Life (www.goodfoodbetterlife.com). Rabion speaks and presents workshops on a wide variety of health topics, and also provides custom formulations for food and beverages in the nutrition, health and functional food markets, including product development and marketing services.
