After a brief retirement of about a year, Dutch Verlander is asked to return to work to train people on the old letter-sorting machines that have made a comeback of their own. He reluctantly agrees, only because he is asked by one of the few managers he respects, who has put his neck on the line promoting this project. His return is without fanfare as he expected.
