Born into a family of fine artists in rural Pennsylvania, Brent refined his craft working as a senior digital artist on several award-winning video games. His architectural designs can be seen in Empires: Dawn of the Modern World and Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. Designing book covers has been a labor of love for friends and family. Following a successful career in digital art, Brent transitioned to secondary education as an avenue to share his love for mathematics and design. He then earned his Master's in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he currently serves as a Program Officer at the Center for a Livable Future. Since joining the Center in 2008, his research has spanned farm to fork, with published works on industrial food animal production, soil contamination, urban agriculture, food and agricultural policy, and the role of plant-centric diets in mitigating climate change. Brent has never lost his love of teaching and visual communication, and continues to translate the science to students, journalists, policymakers, and other key audiences. Brent resides in Baltimore, Maryland with his partner Shannon and their feline familiar, Crystal.
