The cover has dark red cloth with black lettering and an illustration. 93 chapters; index. The spine strip is a little faded and its top and bottom edges a little frayed. The back board has a 1 in. stain. A third of the front pastedown had been torn loose. It is now glued down. The back endpaper's fold has a meandering closed tear. It is tipped back together. The bottom margins of the front free endpaper, the frontal matter pages, and pages 1-18 each have a peeled tear, now tipped back together with glue. Two pages each have stains, mostly on the margins.
