Der vorliegende Band Gott bietet keine allgemeine Gotteslehre in der uberkommenen Form sogenannter naturlicher Theologie, sondern rekonstruiert die impliziten Voraussetzungen christlicher Theologie auf historisch-traditionsgeschichtliche Weise. Thematisiert werden zunachst die religiosen Uberlieferungen Israels und die Gehalte der hebraischen Bibel. Der Entstehung des Monotheismus kommt dabei besondere Aufmerksamkeit zu. Sodann bietet Gunther Wenz eine Darstellung antiker griechischer Philosophie unter besonderer Berucksichtigung der Ontotheologie. Theologie bedarf der kritischen und orientierenden Reflexion der Philosophen. Die Philosophie kann ihrerseits nicht zu einem umfassenden Verstandnis des Menschen in der Welt gelangen ohne Berucksichtigung der Bedeutung des Religiosen fur die menschliche Natur. Der Folgeband Christus wird Jesus und den Anfangen christlicher Theologie gewidmet sein. Das trinitarisch-christologische Dogma der Alten Kirche, in dem das christliche Gottesverstandnis seinen klassischen Ausdruck gefunden hat, soll im Band Geist erortert werden.
