Etched and painted with fire and heat, pyrographed gourds have existed for generations—and now modern tools and solid state woodburning systems have made doing fine detail work simpler than ever. Every amply illustrated page and project teaches and inspires, as a parade of fine artists discuss their tools, reveal their techniques, and above all go through each step of the process. They explain how to pick and prepare a suitable gourd; form delicate lines, spirals, and curves; and work through intricate designs. Among the awe-inspiring projects: a pyrographed Frog gourd, basket, and several pieces of jewelry.
