Grace and Peace: A Plea for Spiritual Humility

Christians worship a God of grace and peace, but too often the body of Christ is marked by pride, legalism, and divisiveness.   The wars of modern-day Christianity are fought through billboards, picket signs, boycotts, blog posts, and hastily-sent tweets. They may be less bloody than the crusades of the past, but the wounds they inflict are severe nonetheless.  Combining personal narrative with scholarly insight, Grace & Peace examines the problem of pride and envisions a more humble approach to Christian spirituality.

“J.K. Hodge has written a powerful, prophetic book that indicts our spiritual pride and invites us to move from the demonization of difference to the re-humanization of our relationships through the power of humility, inquiry, and Grace. And while we often look for God's grace in pure, ‘holy’ experiences, Hodge invites us to listen for the quiet voice that becomes audible only in the darkest hour. His book is suffused with a humble authority borne of his clear thought, passionate faith, and personal experience of choosing the way of grace and peace in the midst of darkness.”

“The subject of spiritual humility should never be approached by one who does not bear the scars of humbling circumstances.  The author of this book not only bears those scars, but has also experienced the Grace to see his way through.”
