The Graduated Course of Translation from English Into French, Ed. by C. Cassal and T. Karcher. Senior Course

The Graduated Course Of Translation From English Into French, Ed. By C. Cassal And T. Karcher. Senior Course by Hugues Charles S. Cassal. The Senior Course is a nineteenth-century educational anthology designed to train advanced students in translating English texts into French. This volume, part of the two-part series on translation courses, gathers a broad range of English prose and poetry chosen for their linguistic interest and classroom usefulness. It functions as a practical manual for language study, offering carefully selected excerpts, with a built-in Vocabulary of idioms and difficulties to illuminate troublesome expressions. Prefaces explain the method and aims of the course, and the contents span historical essays, literary criticism, biography, travel, drama, and other genres drawn from well-known sources. The pieces are presented to encourage accurate, idiomatic rendering into French and to expose learners to varied registers and styles. Published in 1876 by Longmans, Green, and Co., London, the Senior Course stands as a substantial resource for senior-level translation education and for teachers of French seeking authentic language models and structured practice.
