Giauque studies the roles of France, Britain, Germany, and the United States in the formation and development of the European Economic Community, arguing that a mix of cooperation and competition existed between the four countries that ultimately determined which proposals for unity succeeded and which failed.

Jeffrey Glen Giauque is a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He has taught history and international studies at Miami (Ohio) University.
