Synopsis
This book brings together the social and artistic contributions of Pedro Lasch to the AND AND AND series of Documenta 13. In addition to organizing 'Five Decolonial Days in Kassel' (July 11-15, 2012), Lasch created three works related to his 'Phantom Limbs' and 'Twin Towers Go Global' series. Produced over a period of years (2010, 2011, 2012), each one of these works was issued on three consecutive anniversaries of 9/11/2001. 'Grand Gestures & (Im)Modest Proposals' is the title of the last work in this cycle, as well as the book that brings together the overall series. With a critical perspective towards the history of 9/11/2001 and other recent global conflicts, this book and its central essay abandon the fictional tone and ambiguous character of its preceding segments. Included are previously unpublished materials from the Twin Towers Go Global archives, as well as quotes and commentary by the artist and diverse figures ranging from Édouard Glissant to Condoleeza Rice. The book contains over 70 color illustrations of Lasch's multimedia artworks, as well as their related research materials.
