A Positive Approach to learning about dementia for kids.
Grandma’s Living with Dementia is the first in our Living with Dementia children’s book series.
In this book, we invite you to join Timmy and his parents as they learn to appreciate the joy that dementia can bring when you choose to engage in the moment and you have a Positive Approach.
Who is this for?
With dementia, there will be things that are lost, but more importantly, there will be many skills that remain. Knowing more about how to focus on what remains will help everyone have a better time when together.
A note to parents
In this book, one of the topics we address is when someone you are caring for doesn’t recognize you, or even if you seem familiar, they don’t know that you are their child or grandchild. The wiring in the brain isn’t working properly, so it will be helpful to use your healthy brain to connect with them.
The best thing to do is introduce yourself, use their preferred name, and use your knowledge of them and their interests to make the visit the best that it can be.
Written by Teepa’s two daughters, Abby and Amanda, this book was intentionally designed to help you notice and appreciate what is happening and what is not happening for someone in your life who is living with dementia.
