(BOMC Selection) Large, thicker book, dark blue cloth with bright gilt hat and sword illustrated on front, very bright gilt lettering and design on spine, blue inside covers and adjacent end papers, 556 lightly browned pages. DJ heavy paper, top front and spine gray and blue, illustration of Grant and horse at bottom front, small b/w photo of Catton at top back left, praise from Charles Poore in New York Times, T. Harry Williams in Louisiana State University, Allan Nevins at Columbia University. DJ has very slight wear at top of front bookfold edge, very tiny scratch and very slight wear at spine top left edge, white back lightly browned, spine very slightly browned. Very Good DJ/Very Fine book.
