Registered edition, presented to an individual who supported the war cause, with two related certificates bound in preceding the text of the first volume (one lists the following organizations, to which the recipient was likely a contributor: American National Red Cross Society; U.S. Liberty Loan; U.S. War Savings; Belgian Relief Fund; United War Work Campaign). A few minor cosmetic blemishes to boards, otherwise an excellent set. Bindings tight and square, pages clean, bright, and unmarked. 1923 Hard Cover. xl, 432 pp. Original multi-colored decorative cloth bindings, gilt titles and decorations, top edges gilt, photographic frontispieces and plates. The bindings are an authorized facsimile of the original art binding on the official French copy of the Versailles Peace Treaty. Released several years after the conclusion of World War I, this was designed to be an objective, non-partisan, non-sectarian view of the war. Each volume provides an introductory outline, followed by a detailed account of a particular period of the war. The first volume discusses the causes of the war in the years leading up to it, and each subsequent volume focuses on a single year of the conflict.
