Great Truths on Great Subjects. Six Lectures . Second Edition

Great Truths On Great Subjects. Six Lectures. Second Edition by Jonathan Bayley surveys foundational Christian theology through six lectures delivered at Brighton. Bayley argues for a monotheistic God while presenting a Divine Trinity as a unity of essential attributes: the Father as Love, the Son as the Divine Word and manifest God, and the Spirit as the divine life flowing from the Father through the Son. He contends that the Father and the Son are not two separate persons but one God, with the Son fully present in the Father and the Spirit proceeding from Him. The Atonement is described as God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, a work of love rather than wrath, requiring human response and cooperation. The Christian life centers on keeping the commandments—justice, mercy, and humility—and on conquering selfishness. Death and Resurrection are treated as the soul’s immediate entrance into a higher life with a spiritual body. Judgment and the Second Coming are viewed as inward transformations in the spirit-world rather than mere outward events.
