The Green Pumpkin

A Halloween and Fall Favorite for Kids Ages 4-8 (Grades PreK-2)

Emmy can't wait for her class trip to the pumpkin patch. While her classmates reach for the biggest, roundest, brightest orange pumpkins, Emmy notices something different; a pumpkin bumpy and green.

It may not look like the others, but she was drawn to it. Back at school, Emmy's classmates make fun of her choice. But with some imagination, creativity, and encouragement from her mom, she transforms her green pumpkin into something magical, proving that "sometimes the best things are different too".

Perfect for Halloween read-alouds, fall celebrations, and classroom story time, The Green Pumpkin is more than just a seasonal book. It's a touching story about individuality, creativity, and embracing what makes us unique. Young readers will cheer for Emmy and be inspired to see the beauty can come in any shape, color, or size.

Jen Kennedy is the author of The Green Pumpkin and the founder of Golden Chapter Books-a publishing home for imaginative, heartfelt stories inspired by family, childhood, and the magic in everyday moments. A mom, writer, and lifelong storyteller, Jen began this journey with a story she wrote as a child alongside her own mother. Years later, she's bringing it to life for a new generation inspired by her husband (Greg), son (Theo) and their golden retriever (Dorothy).

Cody Brown is a visual storyteller who brings imagination to life-whether he's directing video shoots, snapping photos behind a camera, or sketching with his kids by his side. He lives in Ohio with his wife, Anna, and their two creative sidekicks, Luke and Lily, who are never short on ideas (or a good time). The Green Pumpkin is a special project close to his heart, blending whimsy, warmth, and a touch of magic in every illustration.
