Grid Iron: Idiot's Guide to American Football

The 'gridiron' is the field of play in American Football - the only sporting activity in which a fully grown man appears in public wearing tights, Dynasty-style shoulder pads, and make-up under the eyes.

American Football is still hugely misunderstood, despite its enormous following on television. What is a knuckle ball? What is a linebacker doing when he's stunting? And should it be allowed when children are watching? All these questions and more are answered in this book.

Tony Benyon and Kevin Macey reveal the finer points of the game and introduce the players, from the quarterback to the day-release prisoner from Death Row. They explain the strategies, the equipment and why offensive formations are actually encouraged. So, smear grease marks on your face, pop in your gumshield, pad up your sensitive parts and take to the gridiron!

Bibliographical note: Although the front cover has a strap-line 'American Football An idiot's guide' it does not appear on the title page which simply states 'Grid Iron' and that is how the book is catalogued.
