The Grief Practice: Stories of Surviving Loss & Practices for Supporting Loss

The Grief Practice explains and explores grief in the body through human stories and mindfulness practices. The ancient practices of yoga and mindfulness are offered through a trauma-informed and science-based lens, validating the physical experience of grief and reminding grieving humans that their body is doing everything it can to support them under the weight of their grief.

Monique Minahan draws from her years of experience teaching yoga to grieving humans, current understandings of emotions science, movement science, and trauma - as well as her own devastating experience of grief - in creating a book that approaches grief from a submarine perspective, allowing people who have not lost to understand both the tremendous beauty and overwhelming pain of loving and losing, and allowing people who have lost to feel accompanied in their experience in a uniquely personal way.

Monique Minahan is a writer, mother, yoga teacher, and creator of The Grief Practice: Trauma-informed yoga that welcomes grief. Through words and movement she creates supportive containers for people to move with and through all kinds of loss. At the age of twenty-five she lost her husband, Nathan, to a complication with one of his chemotherapy drugs. She struggled with complicated grief and major depression for many years. Six years later Monique started practicing yoga. She credits the practice of yoga with taking her from surviving to thriving. She has years of experience teaching yoga to grieving humans and blends an understanding of emotions science, movement science, and trauma - as well as her own intimate understanding of grief - into classes that honor the innate healing ability of every human being and every human body.
