The fourth edition of this well-respected text, first published in 1979, is a timely and thorough revision of the existing material.  Group Counseling has done well over the years, due in large part to its comprehensive history of group work as a counseling specialty, the practical nature of the authors' explanations, the diversity of sources the authors draw upon, and the international acclaim of Dr. Landreth's work on play and filial therapy.
