Illustrated throughout with diagrams of instruments, their mechanics and sheet music. Volume one runs from A to E, volume two from F to L and volume three from M to P. Grove limited the chronological span of his work to begin at 1450 while continuing up to the present day. Complete in five volumes. In a half calf binding. Externally, generally smart with minor shelfwear as head and tail of spines are bumped. Sunning to spines. Ink inscription to front pastedown dated to 1914.
