Synopsis:

This book is about plant conservation through cultivation. These plants are becoming rare because their native habitat is shrinking and because they are challenging to grow. Growing "at-risk" medicinal plants depends on conserving or creating the environment that harbors them. It is my sincere hope that gardeners and conservationists will use this book to help preserve wild places and as solid ground for fostering and protecting our irreplaceable native medicinal plants.

About the Author: Richo Cech started his professional work as an archaeologist and ethnobotonist in East Africa. Upon his return to the United States in 1978, he began cultivating and saving the seed of medicinal plants. Over the years, this collection has become the basis for Horizon Herbs, dedicated to "Sowing seeds worldwide for the benefit of people, plants and the planet." Richo teaches and lectures internationally. He is the author of the widely acclaimed and quoted "Horizon Herbs Growing Guide and Catalog" and "Making Plant Medicine" (2000). Richo lives with his family on their 5-acre seed farm in Williams, Oregon.

Sena Cech started illustrating plants at an early age, immersed in the great diversity of flowering herbs at Horizon Herbs seed farm. Over the years she has honed her observational faculties to a fine art, producing the beautiful and accurate line drawings that grace this book. Sena is currently engaged in a career as an international runway model, appearing in New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, London and Milan. In the midst of her travels she enjoys studying language, spinning fire and playing guitar. Much to the delight of her parents and children everywhere, she still draws "Cheesie Mouse" cartoons for the family seed catalog. Sena also illustrated "Making Plant Medicine" and is the author of "Kidzerbs, a Kid’s Guide to Growing Medicinal Plants" (1996).
