Reviews:
Collectors will browse here with delight, identifying plants already owned and future acquisitions. The first quarter of this oversized book covers plant groups, environments, and general care. Then individual color photographs show over 1000 flourishing houseplants, often several varieties of each species--and not ones you commonly see. The entries touch on background and growing conditions. Libraries should be aware that this book was originally written for a European market. The text is sometimes unclear, perhaps due to the translation from the Dutch original. Also, careless editing has left beetles four inches (centimeters?)long, Florida "mouths" (moths?), and a confusing "corn tumer." But Herwig's concern for giving plants the light, temperature, and moisture they need comes through on every page, as does his knowledge and experience. Recommended for large collections on gardening and for all collections on houseplants.
