It is easy, however, to neglect this phase of operations, and the same executives who agree in general on, the need for development frequently postpone doing anything about it in the face of what seem to be more urgent operating problems. NO item on the profit and loss statement separately reports and directly reflects the cost of inadequate attention to the development of people. And rarely are Special control reports prepared which isolate and define the cost of employing personnel and then losing them after Six months or a year. In some companies efforts have been made to estimate this cost, but usually this task is undertaken only when the turnover problem has become SO acute that management action must be taken. Also, it is not practical or possible to measure in dollars and cents the cost of not realizing the full potential of existing employees in the organization. Sometimes such cost is reflected in bad morale poor Spirit but these are certainly intangible qualities, and complex relationships with other company policies are involved.
