First published in 1908, the treatment, rooted in long teaching experience, follows Dedekind's approach to irrational numbers and Cantor's introduction of arithmetical operations, with the concept of limit elegantly simplified through the notion of "almost all" members of an infinite set. The nineteen chapters progress from irrational numbers, limits, and rational operations through functions of one and several variables, differentiation, infinite series, power series, maxima and minima, inversion of functions, indefinite and definite integrals, improper integrals, and double and curve integrals, concluding with geometric applications. Three appendices cover determinant theory, Fredholm determinants, and mappings.
