A Guide to Adventure: An Autobiography

Here is the scene: A man sits atop an elephant as part of a hunt for a man-eating tiger menacing a small Indian village. While other hunters are armed with guns, this man is armed only with his camera. His guide motions to movement in the grass next to his side, and he turns, hoping to find this deadly tiger through the viewfinder. As the tiger emerges from the brush, it leaps out and grabs the man's elephant by the trunk, causing the elephant to toss him to the ground, defenseless and at the mercy of the tiger. A scene from "Tarzan Goes to India"? No - this is just one of the many death-defying moments retired filmmaker Ellis R. Dungan faced as he scoured India for footage used in numerous films. Dungan has filled his memoirs, "A Guide to Adventure: An Autobiography", with such intriguing tales relating the achievements, risks, and unusual encounters he experienced throughout his life at home and abroad.
