Much of the social and economic history of the state is revealed in this fascinating guide to the architecture of Minnesota. The authors trace the development of the environment and buildings in all parts of the state from territorial days to the present and give detailed information, with illustrations, about Minnesota’s architectural inheritance.
Minnesotans and visitors may take architectural tours of the cities and towns, seeing the landmarks with an understanding of their significance in local and architectural history. In all, nearly 300 towns and cities are represented in the pictures and text. A photohistory showing 175 years of Minnesota architecture is included.
David Gebhard is director of The Art Galleries and professor of architectural history at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Tom Martinson is principal planner in the office of the Minneapolis City Coordinator.
