A Guide to the Basque Country: Five Walking Tours (Walking Tour Guides)

The Basque Country of France and Spain is a wonderful place to visit, with spectacular scenery, architecture, gastronomy, traditions and a rich history.

This book aims to give the tourist an opportunity to visit not only the major attractions one would expect, but also many other interesting sights that are often overlooked. Five walking tours are included, with detailed information about the various stops along each route. Rather than rushing to keep up with costly (and often far too hasty) guided tours, you can take control of your own itinerary, spending time at the locations that interest you the most.

The tours featured enable you to compare five contrasting destinations: enjoy the Belle Époque architecture of San Sebastián with its sandy beaches made famous by Queen Maria Cristina; experience the style of Biarritz, the town frequented by Napoleon and Eugénie; visit Hendaye and Hondarribia to see how the tensions between France and Spain affected settlements located on opposite sides of the River Bidasoa, and wander along the beautiful riverbanks of Bayonne.
