Guide To The Manuscripts And Printed Books Exhibited In Celebration Of The Tercentenary Of The Authorized Version

Step behind the glass cases and into the world of the earliest English Bibles. Here, every leaf records a revolution. The pages breathe with history. Alfred W. Pollard, one of the great bibliographers of his age, gathers the story of scripture in English through the manuscripts and printed volumes assembled for a landmark exhibition. Conceived as a bible exhibition catalog for the authorized version tercentenary, it serves as an early printed books guide and historical bibliography reference of exceptional authority. Pollard traces king james bible history and 1611 authorized version history through early english bible manuscripts, rare quartos and folios, and the great printed Bibles that shaped faith, language, and politics. Each entry illuminates the making of the English Bible and the cultures that received it, inviting close attention from theologians, students of early modern england religion, and lovers of fine books alike. For scholars it is a trusted bible historians reference and bible translation history study; for enthusiasts, a rare book collectors guide and a window into the wider history of book collecting. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
