Synopsis
For the past 25 years, I've experienced and traveled through one of the greatest journeys any man could. I am a father and proudly wear the title of Dad to three beautiful children. With the debut of this book and continued mentoring of my children and others 'in the village', I want to reciprocate the gift I've been given. I want to show parents that are having difficulty with their children or rearing skills, that it is easier than you think. I am not claiming to be a Ph.D, or a parenting counselor. Just a Dad. I am on a mission to strengthen the family, especially the families of color. I am determined to provide our children with the best parenting that is available. If the present parenting happens to be a single mother in both roles, a single dad who is both mom and dad, or even the two parent households who have lost control of their children and want to bring the family back together, it can be done and I'll assist in whatever way I can, with what I've used in parenting and what others have tooled me with. My debut book, "A Guide for Mothers Who Have to be Fathers" celebrates those mothers who have done this job alone and reassures fathers they can still get into the game and succeed. I'm a product of a mother who 'took the reins', so th speak and with that instruction, I've taken the lead with my own children till this day.
About the Author
Greg was born Gregory Williams on July 16, 1956 in Washington, DC. He grew up in a middle class African-American family in Brooklyn, NY. His strict aunt and uncle adopted him, and they were the only parents that he knew for several years. As a teenager, he learned of his adoption and finally met his birth mother, his aunt’s sister. His parents afforded him as many opportunities as possible, including music lessons. Greg spent quite a number of years studying piano at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, playing in bands and serving in the music department of his neighborhood church.. After college, Greg moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts, to live his mother, Dorothy, and his other 6 siblings. He toured with a band called the Ambitions. He enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS DDEisenhower, which started his electronics engineering career. After his tour in the military, Greg relocated back to DC, his birthplace, and met his birth father, Leon Johnson, for the first time. Soon after his first son Devin was born, he relocated to Florida, got married and his second son, Darin, was born. After several years living and working in Florida, Greg divorced and relocated to Texas, continuing his engineering and music career. His love for his children, from the first son, the godchild and the last son, increased as the years progressed. Greg understood that these children did not get a vote about whether they would become a part of his life, so he made sure they received his full attention, support and love. His children still live with him today. Throughout Greg’s life, he appreciated counsel from other parents raising children in different ways. Now he is taking the time to celebrate mothers who have done an outstanding job raising children without a father present in the home. These mothers rule with the fortitude of a battalion commander and the gentleness of a calm breeze. His debut book acknowledges that parenting today is different from the past and that parents must adjust their methods to ensure maximum effectiveness in the lives of their children. Keep the child as the paramount priority. You will be blessed as a result.
