Orig. hardcover (brown imit. h.leather with gilt lettering on spine), d./j. 4to.Published a German-language version of a catalogue for a major international retrospective exhibition. This in-depth art historical reference work accompanied the exhibition held from December 1988 to February 1989 at the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt. - The work focuses on the life and oeuvre of the influential Italian Baroque painter Guido Reni (1575-1642), who hailed from Bologna. In his time, he was considered one of the absolute masters and one of the most important representatives of the Bolognese School. The catalogue highlights how popular and influential Reni was during his lifetime. His fame soon spread from Italy to the rest of Europe (such as France, Spain, and England), where princes, royal houses, and collectors vied for his paintings.
