Coarse fishing is a field sport which attracts more participants than any other kind of angling. Large or small, the quarry will demand the same degree of skill from the fisherman. As co-authors of the Guinness Guide to Coarse Fishing, Michael Prichard and Michael Shepley endeavour to bring a comprehensive and factual view - based on experience - of the pleasures and techniques involved in the sport.
The volume discusses the freshwater fish species, the angler's tackle and methods, and the many water conditions that are presented. The travelling angler and the holiday fisherman are taken to those countries where there are numerous fish of quality; and they can be fished for in a variety of novel ways. The illustrations clearly indicate the authors' technique, with an added explanation of the rigs that succeeded, together with a detailed analysis of the natural situations explored.
The authors have looked at the new equipment, tackle trends, fishery developments and the advancing bait chemistry of high protein mixes. The 1981 World Coarse Fishing Championships held on the Warwickshire Avon are evaluated and projected to the return of this major event to the British Isles on the Newry Canal, Northern Ireland in 1982.
