Gunning for the Enemy: Bomber Command's Top Sharp Shooter Tells His Remarkable Story

When the Bank of Scotland carried out a recent survey asking people to name Great Scots, ‘Wallace McIntosh - War Hero’ was chosen amongst such illustrious names as John Logie Baird, David Livingstone and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Born into grinding poverty and brought up in awful circumstances by his grandparents he managed to join the R.A.F. to escape the constant struggle to survive. Only by a fluke was he trained as an air gunner, then to fly over fifty missions, shooting down eight enemy aircraft - an amazing and unique feat – including three in one night. Merely staying alive was an incredible challenge and he had many hairy incidents, all related here in his moving and uplifting story. Wallace was a remarkable and unforgettable character who overcame all the appalling odds, creating hope from nothing to become the most decorated air gunner ever.
