In seiner beruflichen Laufbahn reflektiert Kupetz (*1925) wie kaum ein anderer Gestalter seiner Zeit die Gründerstimmung des deutschenDesigns in den 50er und 60er Jahren.

Kupetz hat weit über 1000 Produkte entworfen: Metallwaren, Glas, Schmuck, Verpackungen, Möbel, Investitionsgüter, Maschinen. Einige seiner Entwürfe, wie die Mineralwasserflasche für die deutsche Brunnengesellschaft, sind millionenfache Bestseller geworden, die bis heute im Einsatz sind. Seine Kreationen für WMF undAEG stellten auf ihrem Gebiet echte Designinnovationen dar. Viele seiner Entwürfe erscheinen heute noch aktuell dank ihrer herausragenden formalen Eigenschaften.

Das Buch stellt erstmals seine Arbeit im Zusammenhang darund veranschaulicht, wie Kupetz die Gestaltung anonymer Massenprodukte als eine gesellschaftliche Aufgabe verstanden hat, die mit der höchstmöglichen Qualität gelöst werden muss.

The career of Günter Kupetz (b. 1925) reflects the boom time of German design in the 1950s and 1960s more fully than that of almost any other designer of his time.

Kupetz has designed well over 1000 products, including metalware, glass, jewelry, packaging, furniture, capital equipment, and machines. Some of his designs, such as the mineral water bottle for the Deutsche Brunnengesellschaft, have become million-sellers and are still in use today. His creations for WMR and AEG were true design innovations in their field. Many of his designs are still up-to-date today thanks to their outstanding formal characteristics.

The book presents Kupetz’s work in context for the first time and shows how he has understood the design of anonymous, mass-produced items as a social task that demands to be fulfilled with the maximum possible quality.
