An early and increasingly scarce first edition of Edwin Lefevre's H.R., a novel centered on ambition, finance, business, and the pursuit of power in early twentieth-century America. Lefevre was a journalist, author, and former Wall Street stockbroker best known for Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. H.R. follows the rise of Hendrik Rutgers from a bank clerk to a powerful New York businessman with political ambitions.

This copy retains the original publisher's blue cloth binding, gilt cover and spine lettering, and the illustrated interior/frontispiece. The copyright page states ?Copyright, 1915, by Harper & Brothers? and ?Published October, 1915.? The Harper & Brothers K?P date code is present, identifying the October 1915 issue.

Condition: Good. The original cloth binding is intact but shows age-related wear, including rubbing and wear to the corners, spine ends, and boards. The gilt lettering remains visible. The binding is generally sound. The text block is complete, with age-toning to the pages consistent with a book of this age. There is no dust jacket.
