168pp. Blank inner margin of title page reinforced. Illustrations in text. Old stabholes in blank inner margins from prior binding. Bound in later cloth. Light wear. Good plus. Roberts, stationed at Fort Monroe, became its Commander when Civil War broke out. Its chapters are written in question-and-answer format. The book was "Possibly printed before the secession of Virginia" [Parrish]. This is one of two 1861 Richmond imprints, each of them scarce. The book begins with the "Proceedings" which resulted in its acceptance as a training manual for the Artillery School at Fort Monroe in 1860. Parrish & Willingham 5024. Crandall 2473. Nicholson 708.
