In Vinegia per Comin da Trino, 1554, in 4 de (26) pp. comprenant la page de titre imprimée dans un encadrement ornementé de personnages et motifs renaissance gravé sur bois et 1 grande figure allégorique de la justice à pleine page, et 244 feuillets, belles lettrines illustrées gravés sur bois, reliure d'ép. de plein velin ivoire, dos anciennement consolidé de velin, pièce de titre de papier manuscrite à l'encre brune, bon exemplaire. Marcantonio Coccio Sabellico (1436-1506) est généralement considéré comme le premier historiographe de la République de Venise. L'édition originale parut en latin en latin en 1487. Maroquin rouge, plats ornés d'un décor de listels entrelacés peints à la cire noire et jaune, fleurettes mosaïquées en maroquin citron, doubles encadrements de filets à froid et dorés, chiffre au centre, dos à nerfs orné de filets à froid, filets dorés et de fleurettes mosaïquées, tranches dorées et ciselées, mouillures affectant le dernier cahier. Reliure vénitienne de l'époque. 211 x 150 mm. Première édition italienne donnée par Ludovico Dolce de L'Histoire de Venise de Marc Antoine Sabellico, premier historiographe vénitien. Elle est ornée d'un beau frontispice et de lettrines historiées dans le texte, en tête de chaque chapitre. L'édition originale, latine, parut en 1487, à Venise. Adams, S17 ; Cicogna, 568; Brunet, V, 6 ; Lozzi, 6109; Graesse, Trésor de livres rares et précieux, VI, 202. Dans cet ouvrage, l'auteur « chante la gloire de la république de Venise et exalte le mythe naissant de Venise et de sa Libertas. » (M. Viallon-Schoneveld). « Le premier qui s'occupa des annales vénitiennes, avec un plan arrêté et une certaine largeur d'idées, fut Marc-Antoine Sabellico qui écrivit l'histoire de la ville depuis sa fondation jusqu'à l'année 1484. » (La vie privée à Venise depuis l'origine jusqu'à la chute de la république, F. Molmenti). Dans le troisième livre de la « quarta deca » l'auteur évoque l'accident qui aurait valu à Christophe Colomb de s'établir au Portugal. « Fernando Colomb dit que cet évènement fut la cause de l'établissement de son père en Portugal, et qu'il se trouve raconté dans la dixième décade du « Tite-Live de son temps, Marc-Antoine Sabellico », bibliothécaire de Saint-Marc » (A. Von Humboldt, Examen critique de l'histoire, I, p.93). Précieux volume conservé dans sa reliure vénitienne richement décorée et mosaïquée, ornée au centre des plats du chiffre attribué à Claude Du Puy (1545-1594). « Lorsque Claude Du Puy mourut, sa succession fut recueillie en commun par ses fils Pierre et Jacques Du Puy, tous deux gardes de la Bibliothèque du roi. Les deux frères travaillèrent à l'augmentation et à l'amélioration de la bibliothèque.
