At a 1988 symposium organized by the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution a panel of distinguished international scholar presented papers offering a broad view of various aspects of strip weaving, principally in West Africa. The six papers presented at the symposium are published in this volume, and provide previously unpublished insights, ranging from broad views to discrete studies of strip weaving of West African peoples.
