Boston: Carter, Hendee & Co., 1833. xii, 215 pages, plus engraved frontispiece. Two small woodcut endpieces. Original dark blue linen with printed paper spine label. Embossed stamp of non-circulating library on title and several other leaves, and small inked accession number on dedication page, but no other signs of institutional use. Otherwise, a good or better copy. Cloth is rubbed and scuffed; spine is slightly cocked. Double-sided illustration of the church pasted to the front pastedown. The front hinge is partly cracked but holding. Moderate foxing to the frontispiece; offsetting from the frontispiece to the title. Fairly light scattered foxing to the text. FIRST EDITION. A history of the church from its founding in 1686 to the time of publication. The stone building, still in use today, was completed in 1754. In 1785, under the leadership of James Freeman, King's Chapel became a Unitarian Church, the first in the United States. Appendices include extracts from church records, addresses, and lists of ministers, among other items. American Imprints 19110.
