HISTORY Rocks! Speak Up!: Public Speaking, Debate & Interpersonal Communications

Strong communication skills are among the most valuable life tools a student can develop. The ability to speak clearly, listen thoughtfully, and express ideas with confidence not only enhances success in school, but also strengthens relationships and prepares students for future careers.

This workbook is designed to accompany the yearlong History Rocks! Communication & Public Speaking course. In the first semester, students are introduced to the foundations of public speaking, critical thinking, argument, and debate. They will explore different styles of speeches, practice rhetorical strategies, and deliver speeches that emphasize clarity, organization, and confidence—including introductory, impromptu, and informational formats.

The second semester shifts toward interpersonal communication. Students will develop practical strategies to connect with others, express themselves effectively, and respond thoughtfully in a variety of settings.

Whether joining for one semester or the full year, students will find every class unique—shaped by the energy, participation, and ideas of their peers. This workbook provides a framework for practice, reflection, and growth, ensuring students leave with stronger voices and greater confidence in their ability to communicate.
