A thorough history of Seneca County, Ohio, by the prolific historian, Consul W. Butterfield. Butterfield's history includes much general information on the settlement of Ohio and relations with the Seneca Indians, particularly regarding their forced westward migration. Butterfield also includes an account of the infamous Simon Girty, the most feared man on the Ohio frontier, including his 1777 attack on Fort Henry. "2,000 copies were printed, but 1,300 were destroyed by fire in a warehouse in Tifflin, Ohio, 1849. Original brown cloth stamped in blind, spine gilt. Cloth rubbed and stained, spine extremities chipping, small hole in cloth on spine, losing a few letters of spine title, joints cracked but holding. Lacking both endpapers, light tanning and staining, tear to center of p.243, touching text but without loss. Good plus.
