Vol.1.: Taxation from the Earliest Times to the Civil War; lx+244; Vol.2.: Taxation from the Civil War to the Present Day; xvi+586; Vol.3. Direct Taxes and Stamp Dutes; viii+301+(1, Appendix); Vol.4. Taxes on Articles of Conscumption; xi+465. all vols. unmarked bar an innocuous small (15 mm) round stamp of the Birmingham Assay Office Library bottom fr. endpaper, no other provenance markings, all red cloth covers clean and unworn with gilt-lettered spines, Volume 2 is anomalous in, unlike the others, having high-acid wood-pulp endpapers/pastedowns which have become fairly heavily tanned, with a small chip to top front endpaper corner and, unrelated, a brown water=stain across bottom corner extendsing more faintly to half-title and very minimally to t.p.; Vols 3 & 4 virtually pristine though Vol.4 has some shallow rippling to part of lower front endpaper.
